Little background: I go to a wealthy school. Almost everyone in my school (including my family) is wealthy. In my school, a lot of kids first cars are Audi TT's, Corvettes, new Jeeps, Porsches, NSX's, etc. This is only going to cost me about $15,000 not counting insurance. Before you say anything, I refuse to get a Honda, older Toyota, or anything shitty like that. I won't even get a Chevy Cruze. Should I get this 2000 Porsche 911?

the problem with buying a $15,000 porche is that you don't pay $15,000 levels of maintenance. you pay $85,000+ levels of maintenance. if you can comfortably afford the very expensive maintenance, insurance and other costs (increased fuel costs for example). then go ahead and get the porsche. as a student you don't have a lot of responsibilities. you dont have a family to move around which means that something like a Porsche as a daily driver isnt that bad. later on in life when you have a family, a porsche as a daily driver will be a horrible car even if you can afford it more easily.

in my opinion, I'd skip the porsche and go for something like a 2004 Audi S4. they have rear seats which means I can drive friends around and still have the performance that I like. (they have a relatively big V8 engine that produces a lot of power). they are also much easier to drive in winter thanks to their skinnier tires, AWD, and slightly higher ride height. a Porsche would be quite difficult to drive safely in winter because of its rear wheel drive and very wide tires.

Skip the Porsche, get a BMW E46 2 door, a 330ci or an M3 if you really are wealthy.

My advice to anyone in school considering a Porsche: this two seat vehicle won't let you carry your friends; parking in school lots will expose the car to hurried students throwing their larger car's heavy doors open as they rush to make class. I don't recommend it. Are there a lot of NSX drivers at your school? Really?

For 15,000 you can get a decent Lexus or used BMW the Porsche is looking a little dated for that price .
