Hi Everyone,

I'd just like to clarify one thing, is the Porsche Boxster a fake Porsche? I don't think it is ... but there are others that think it is ... so now I am confused? so is it fake or real?

It is real. That does not make any sense.

Who says it is fake?

It uses most of its parts from the Porsche 911. Same engine block and engine parts. Same headlights and hoods depending on the year, same seats and shift knobs and steering wheels, same transmissions, same ECU system, same radiators, and the same doors and windshield.

The Boxster is just detuned to give less power so that it stays slower than the 911. But they share roughly 70% of parts and all parts are Porsche designed and tested.

The Porsche Boxster and Boxster S usually win hands down in any test of small roadsters. I've seen it tested against Audi TTs, BMWs, Miatas, etc. One Road and Track headline said, "Forget the rest; they're just vying for second place behind the Boxster." Check out this road test of the Boxster S against the BMW Z4 M (yep, the hot M version of the BMW):

The Boxster a "fake" Porsche? Hardly!!

ADDED:

Note that the above referenced test was a 2007 BMW Z4 M versus a 2006 Porsche Boxster S. Now consider running the test again, but using a new 315 HP Boxster S in place of the older Boxster.

There is no reason to be confused. The Porsche Boxster is a real Porsche. Not a fake. You can look this up on Porsche's website or on Google.

I dont think so.

It has 2 doors and it's small like the old 911.

And yes, It's not on a supercar price tag but that's what the 911 was.

It got the engine at the back, like a proper Porsche should be.

The ridiculous one is the Cayenne. An off road Porsche ? Yeah right ! It could've at least got 2 doors with a more coupe style and I will call it a real Porsche.

I could see some confusion over the old Porsche 914 or 924, that used 4 cylinder VW engines. But not the 6 cylinder Boxster. That is a real Porsche engine.

Of course its a real Porsche but it is indeed the entry level Porsche... so obviously that means the price isn't going to be as expensive as let's say a 911 but hey a Porsche is a Porsche.

The Porsche Boxster is definitely a real Porsche, look it up on their website.

That depends on who you ask. I for one believe that real porsches are spartan and aircooled (as opposed to waterboxer'd luxo-barges that they seem to be morphing into.) The boxster is every bit a modern porsche, and I feel that it really does capture at least some of the "spiritual essence" of great old cars like the early 911's and the 356's.

Porsche Boxter is definitely a real Porsche.... many think its a "gay" porsche because it kind of looks dumb and is the cheapest porsche.... they used to be kind of lame.. but the new ones are actually fairly cool

it's just the "starter one" aka the cheapest.

You don't get as much respect buying it as you would the other models, that's all.
